Unconventional Resources Analysis and Processing

About the Course

The Unconventional Resources Course provides participants with the opportunity to work in a small group setting to dive deeper into the challenges facing our industry. The course includes the analysis and modelling of complex reservoirs using various analytical, empirical, and numerical techniques.
Leveraging off the KAPPA Unconventional Resources Consortium (KURC), which consisted of 28 E&P and Service companies worldwide, we are better able to provide insight and software tools to understand the complexity of these types of formations and reservoirs. Using relevant field examples, the participant can look at parent-child well interactions, DFNs, frac hits, uplift potential and field optimization. The most up-to-date and robust modelling techniques are used and discussed openly in small group sessions.

Unconventional Resources Examples short courses

The session will look at the analysis and interpretation of unconventional reservoir performance, working on key issues for a specific chosen UR example. These include but are not limited to:

  • Modelling Re-Fracs
  • Modelling Infill Wells
  • Anomalous Diffusion
  • Bakken Example
  • Volatile Oil
  • Marcellus Wet Gas Example
  • MiniFrac
  • History matching of a high water-cut well
  • Dynamic Flowback
  • Rubis - Intro Simulation Workflow
  • Topaze - Intro RTA Workflow
  • Well Spacing Study
Software coverage includes Saphir (S), Topaze (T) and Rubis (R)

Pre-Requisites to attend the course

  • Although very beneficial, no prior knowledge of KAPPA software is required. The software, for individual, personal non-commercial use, will be provided before the course.
  • Please note that training is done using ZOOM.
  • All training is done with the latest version of KAPPA-workstation. Examples and workflows will not work in earlier versions.
  • We advise two screens are used so you can see trainer’s screen and work on your own screen.
  • In some sessions we may operate an ‘observer’s gallery’ which allows participants who were not able to secure hands-on place to watch and learn.
  • If you have any questions please email: lsn@kappoeng.com
