Introduction to Cased Hole Logging

  • Five-day overview on CHL operations, planning, measurements, principles and interpretation methodologies
  • Applications on reservoir surveillance, permanent monitoring, well integrity, P&A and production optimization
  • Theoretical overview of the different logging techniques and practical application using Emeraude

This course is designed to provide a solid introduction to the different Cased Hole Logging techniques, a foundation from which engineers and petrophysicists can continue to specialize in their areas of interest.

Cased hole logs can be run with the purpose of evaluating the tubulars and cement integrity, quantifying fluid inflows/outflows, determining the formation saturation, etc. Different downhole sensors can be run, depending on the acquisition objectives, well characteristics, regional availability and budget. Each measurement has limitations, specific running procedures and interpretation methodology.

At the end of the course the user will understand the principle, acquisition, and limitations of these measurements, and will also be able to perform a quality check and basic interpretation of the different tools using Emeraude.

Course programme

Basic theory

Cased hole logging acquisition and operations. Working principles and fundamentals of the most common CHL tools, including Temperature, Pressure, Spinners, Fluid identification, Multifinger Calipers, Noise logs, Cement evaluation logs, pulsed neutron and DTS.

QA/QC

Judging data quality, establishing measurements resolution, understanding if the data has been pre-processed, selecting the most representative passes, data editing, etc. Tips for QA/QC on all sensors. Operations planning.

Practice

The participants will gain knowledge on the load, QC, editing and interpretation of different CHL sensors using Emeraude.
